Sports Massage Certification

OSM now offers bodywork training that supports recreational and professional athletes. The thriving sports and fitness community in the Northwest is expanding rapidly, increasing the demand for LMTs with focused training in sports massage. This certification provides a strong foundation allowing practitioners to direct the treatment needs of athletes, who place higher than average demands on their bodies. The level of hands-on training and on-site internships makes this program the first of its kind in Oregon.

Testimonial (January 2009)

As a massage therapist who has been licensed for seven years and maintains two successful massage practices, I can very strongly recommend the Sports Massage class offered by Molly Verschnigel. I've taken many hours of continuing education, traveling for classes lasting days, led by nationally recognized therapists, and spending the big money required for these classes. Without a doubt, the education and experience provided through the PSU internship stands above them all.

Molly's vast knowledge and kind, respectful manner makes for a very positive learning experience. More....

Training includes instruction on assessing and treating sports injuries, increasing range of motion through myofascial release and therapeutic stretching, and how to tap into the sports massage market. The program includes internships at two sporting events and in the athletic training room at Portland State University. Sports Massage Certification enables therapists to work in sports injury clinics and chiropractic offices, alongside other sports medicine.
