Bowenwork, developed in Australia, is based on the principle that our bodies are self-healing, and with the right stimulation, can return to a healthy state. Bowenwork practitioners use a series of very gentle, precise manipulations, on specific muscles, joints and connective tissue that send messages to the brain and initiate the body's own healing mechanisms. After each move has been executed the practitioner allows time for the body to respond before administering the next. The nature of this work allows the practitioner to get maximum results with minimal physical effort, and a practitioner can treat more than one client at a time.
Laura Magpali LMT #7633 is another living testimony to the efficacy of Bowenwork. Torn rotator cuffs in both shoulders during the early years of her busy massage practice threatened early retirement. Multiple weekly sessions of chiropractic, massage, physical therapy, etc., over many frustrating years did not get to the source of the problem. Sound familiar? How many clients have you had with similar stories? Lasting effects, a full and satisfying practice, effectively helping a vast variety of health and body issues, and working part-time motivate Laura Magpali to share Bowenwork with you.
Those attending will receive a certificate for one hour of massage continuing education credit. Bring a colleague. Other healthcare professionals and students are welcome.
BODYWORK IN THE CHILDBEARING YEARS - A MIDWIFE'S VIEW, by Terri Nash

In this presentation Terri Nash will outline and discuss, from a midwife's view, what bodywork does and doesn’t work in the perinatal setting. The presenter values what bodyworkers bring to the birth experience and encourages a team approach in the support and care of women and their families. The discussion will also include valuable practices to help bodyworkers remain in balance, and avoid burnout, stress and overload. Through story, humor and practical example Terri nurtures and inspires bodyworkers and their important role in pregnancy, labor and post-partum.
Terri Nash M.S.,CPM, has practiced midwifery for over two decades; she has also been a student of Tibetan Medicine and teacher of Subtle Energetics since 1984. A storyteller, qi gong teacher, and highly regarded healer and counselor, Terri's talks are filled with deep and humor-filled wisdom. She has studied with the Dalai Lama's physician and lived and studied with Japanese monks, all of which has led to a profound understanding of the nature of mind-body-spirit. Formerly a a representative to the State Legislative Committee on Midwifery and the first interim president of the National Association of Certified Professional Midwives, Terri now lives in Kauai consulting and teaching about vibrant living and perinatal well-being.
“Touch is a primordial communication that is before words; it is in fact a language beyond words. The art of skillful touch brings depth to the experience of pregnancy, integrating the changes a woman undergoes while communicating nurturing, safety, and comfort." T Nash CPM
“Every act of birth requires the courage to let go of something, to let go of the lap, to let go of the hand, to let go eventually of all certainties, and to rely on one thing: one’s own power to be aware and to respond; that is, ones’ creativity. … To be creative means to consider the whole process of life as a process of birth, and not to take any stage of life as a final stage.” Erich Fromm
Those attending will receive a certificate for one hour of massage continuing education credit.
